Can hypnosis be used for childbirth?

The short answer is yes, but let me explain it in more detail. There exist a great deal of common beliefs about pregnancy and labor, that builds up expectations in the minds of women who hasn't ever been pregnant. It's a very common belief that it hurts to give birth to a child. In the eyes of a hypnotist, this is not the right way to approach something that's unavoidable if you want to have a child. Because of these stories I have actually heard about women wanting to give birth by having a caesarian section done to avoid the pain. I find that very troublesome.
In my opinion birth should be done the natural way for the sake of both the baby and the mother, and when I say natural I mean truly natural. This includes that there should be absolutely no ingrained expectations about how much this will hurt. And the way to take pregnancy and labor to a new level where it will be enjoyable the whole time is through hypnosis. It is very likely that you get what you expect, so by expecting pain, that probably what you're going to get. With the help of hypnosis the cause of these beliefs can be found and the subconscious mind can be reeducated in a way that makes it possible for the woman to have a much more pleasant experience of birth.
There are a great deal of books about HypnoBirthing as it's called, and many hypnotists offer courses on the subject, so just search the web for more material or hypnotists. A great place to start is with this article from hypnosis.org written by a hypnotherapist who used HypnoBirthing herself to give birth.
